Flipkart Warehouse Receives Green Warehouse Platinum Certification from IGBC | India is blooming

Bhubaneshwar: The ‘Phase I’ warehouse of e-commerce company Flipkart in Haringhata, West Bengal has been certified by IGBC under the IGBC Green Logistics Parks and Warehouses rating, according to a press release.

The facility has achieved the highest level of IGBC certification – Platinum – which recognizes global leadership.

On Tuesday, Sushil Mohta, Co-Chairman of IGBC Kolkata Chapter and Managing Director of Merlin Projects congratulated the Flipkart project team involved in the certification process with the IGBC Platinum plaque and certificate.

The Platinum-rated facility has many green features, including 80% energy generated by an on-site solar photovoltaic system, a pond with an 8,000 cu. m., electric material handling equipment and an 80% reduction in indoor and outdoor lighting power density (LPD), compared to baseline, according to the statement.

Flipkart’s adoption of the rating provides multiple benefits in the construction and operation of the facility and addresses national priorities such as water, energy, materials and resource conservation and the promotion of biodiversity.

In addition, the intangible benefits resulting from improved indoor environmental quality, improved occupational health and safety for occupants and workers are immeasurable, the statement said.

The rating also addresses industry-specific concerns such as optimizing transportation time and efficiency, reducing the use of fossil fuels for travel and transportation, managing post-consumer waste, warehouse management and overall supply chain management.

This set a new benchmark for many logistics facilities and warehouses across the state to adopt green features and standards toward a sustainable future.
